2010 ADULT LEADER BACKPACK TRAINING

In order to provide Backpack Training for adult leaders planning long term hikes or participating in year ‘round High Adventure programs, the LAAC High Adventure Team will conduct the 45th Council Backpack Training Seminar for registered adult Scouters on the weekend of 19, 20, 21 February 2010 at the Cabrillo Scout Center in San Pedro. Check in will begin at 7:00 Friday evening, with a busy program concluding before noon on Sunday. As in the past, we can assure you of an outstanding staff knowledgeable on the techniques and practices of high adventure backpacking, and supported with basic reference materials and equipment.

  This program is conducted in two parts. The first part on 19, 20, 21 February comprises a series of demonstrations/presentations/discussions covering a variety of subjects including leadership, preparation and conditioning, equipment and gear, cooking and menu planning, first aid and safety, mountain travel and orientation, conservation, long term hike planning and the high adventure program awards and procedures. Emphasis is placed on encouraging adult leaders to transfer training to their junior leaders and assistants.

  The second part is the field trip. This requires outdoor experience and provides the practical application. Indicate your preference of dates for the weekend outing on the application below.
