HIGH ADVENTURE TRAINING
2010 ADULT LEADER DESERT CAMPING AND TRAVEL
In
order to provide training for desert or arid experiences, the Los Angeles Area
Council High Adventure Team will conduct a "Desert Oriented" training
program for registered adult Scouters on Saturday, 18 September 2010 at the Los
Angeles Council Headquarters. Check in will begin at 8:00 am and the program
will conclude at 4:00 pm.
This
program is conducted in two parts. The first part on September 18 will be a
series of demonstrations, presentations and discussions covering special
equipment and gear needed, desert menu planning and desert travel and
orientation with special emphasis on first aid problems that are related to
desert hiking. The program is oriented towards helping adult leaders to safely
and effectively teach youth proper desert type camping.
The
classroom phase will be followed by a required outdoor weekend field trip. Field
trip dates and locations will be established at the course. Indicating preferred
date(s) for the field trip will facilitate selection of the actual date.
