2010
ADULT LEADER WINTER CAMPING AND TRAVEL
In
order to provide training for snow or winter experiences, the Los Angeles Area
Council High Adventure Team will conduct a "Winter Oriented" training
program for registered adult Scouters on Saturday, 6 November 2010 at the Los
Angeles Area Council Headquarters. Check in will begin at 8:00 am and the
program will conclude at 4:00 pm.
This
program is conducted in two parts and will lay emphasis on winter and snow type
outings in order to more fully prepare leaders for cold or winter experiences.
Included in the program coverage will be subjects such as: Physical Demands,
Snow Travel, Equipment, Hazards, Health and Safety, Weather/Water and
Navigation. The program is oriented towards helping adult leaders to safely and
effectively teach youth proper winter camping.
The
classroom phase will be followed by a required outdoor weekend field trip which
is scheduled for the weekend of 5, 6 February 2011. Insufficient snow on that
weekend will cause rescheduling.
It
is recommended that attendees have prior Adult Leader Backpack Training and/or
some backpack skills and experience. Successful participation at this course
enables the graduate to lead backpacking expeditions and meet the requirements
for the Council High Adventure Awards.
